Tests done prior to adoption:

Our costs include travel from Romania or country of origin, also paperwork and veterinary care, Vaccinations, Rabies vaccination, Brucellosis blood test sent to the UK lab, but some vets are asking for a re-test after 3 months of being in the UK depending on what your UK vet suggests.

*Brucellosis is now being tested September 2024 by sending a blood sample to the UK labs instead of the B.C snap test which we have been doing previosuly, more information on this can be found on our Brucell information page.

Our dogs also have a 4DX snap test – The test is run to screen your pet for six vector-borne diseases. When we run this test we are checking your dog for Heartworm, Lyme, Ehrlichia canis, Ehrlichia ewingi, Anaplasma phagocytophilum and Anaplasma platys.

The Adoption Donation will also include full rescue back up (means you cant legally re-home privately and must come back to One paw.  includes a pet passport or vaccination records.

Thank you for offering one of our dogs a loving home.

Brucella testing before and after adoption

Before you adopt, please read our information about the testing of Brucella Canis.

Veterinary Checks and Treatments

All of our dogs from abroad receive comprehensive veterinary checks before travelling to the UK. Each dog is examined by our trusted vet teams and receives:

  • Rabies vaccination

  • 4DX Snap Test

  • Brucellosis (Brucella canis) test

The 4DX Snap Test is a quick, in-house blood test that provides results within about eight minutes. It screens for six vector-borne diseases, ensuring every dog is healthy and safe to travel. These include:

  • Heartworm

  • Lyme disease

  • Ehrlichia canis

  • Ehrlichia ewingii

  • Anaplasma phagocytophilum

  • Anaplasma platys

In addition, we test all dogs for Brucellosis, a serious bacterial infection that can affect both dogs and humans.

All of our dogs are:

  • Fully vaccinated

  • Microchipped

  • Treated for fleas and worms

  • Neutered, unless medically exempt or too young at the time of adoption

If a dog is too young to be neutered, they will leave with a neutering contract, ensuring the procedure is completed at the appropriate time.

Adoption process

Our Adoption Process

At One Paw, our priority is to ensure every dog is matched with the right home for their needs and personality. Below is a step-by-step guide to our adoption process:

Stage One – Submitting an Interest Form

All dogs available for adoption will have been carefully assessed by the One Paw Team to determine the type of home that best suits their temperament and individual needs.

Once you’ve found a dog you’re interested in adopting, please complete our Interest Form.
After reviewing your application, if we feel you could be a suitable match, we’ll contact you to discuss your application further.

A meet and greet will then be arranged — usually at the foster home, or on neutral ground such as a nearby park.
If both parties wish to proceed, a reservation fee will be required to secure the dog pending a successful home check.

Stage Two – Home Check

A member of the One Paw Team will arrange to visit your home to complete a home check. This ensures your property provides a safe and suitable environment for the dog.

Your garden or outdoor area will be thoroughly inspected to make sure there are no potential escape routes.
If any risks are identified, you’ll be given a reasonable amount of time to make the necessary improvements before proceeding.

Stage Three – Payment and Paperwork

Once your home check has been approved and the adoption confirmed, you’ll need to complete and sign the Adoption Contract.

The adoption fee is payable by bank transfer, with the previously paid deposit deducted from the total amount. The fee must be paid in full before collection of your new dog.

This fee contributes towards the costs of:

  • Travel and transport
  • Veterinary checks and treatments
  • Ongoing care while in foster

These costs are often higher than the adoption donation, so every contribution truly helps us continue our work.

All of our One Paw dogs are:

  • Vaccinated
  • Microchipped
  • Fully treated for fleas and worms
  • Neutered (or will be once medically appropriate, following veterinary advice)
